8-bit Flash Microcontroller with 4-channel High-Current Driver

LED lighting applications

Intelligent LED Lighting Solutions

LED lighting designers and engineers are constantly looking for ways to reduce the cost and the size of the power management solution for multi-LED applications. NEC Electronics' solution is a 4-channel constant-current driver with an embedded 8-bit flash microcontroller integrated into a single package to maximize savings of both cost and space.

The µPD78F8024 microcontroller has a wide input voltage range from 9 to 38V and supports both buck and boost topologies to drive up to 40 high-power LEDs at currents reaching over 1.5A. Each constant-current driver implements an individual hardware hysteretic regulator controller with switching frequency up to 1 MHz, while the flash microcontroller can control each channel through PWM signals to enable dimming, flashing, and strobing sequences.

Applilet EZ for High-Current Driver MCU

The Applilet EZ code generator is a free, user-friendly development tool that generates software automatically to control the four channels of the µPD78F8024 microcontroller.

CA78K0

The CA78K0 includes the PM+ project manager and a compiler and assembler.

WriteEZ3

WriteEZ3 is a programming GUI for the EV-K0-HCD evaluation kit.

A parameter file is required to program the device.

IECUBE

The IECUBE is a full-function emulator used to efficiently debug both hardware and software. This high-performance emulator includes the NEC Electronics debugger and a simple flash programmer. It's compact and lightweight enough to fit in your hand, and is a cost-effective solution. Furthermore, an incorporated self-testing tool allows for easy maintenance.
